Horse-man-ship Mentality – Think like this to improve your horsemanship.

Horse-man-ship Mentality – Think like this to improve your horsemanship.

Cappel Cowboy Wisdom

Harry Truman said that a good leader is someone who can persuade people to do what they do not want to do and like it, essentially defining leadership as the ability to do this even if they are not initially inclined to while still maintaining their support!

This to me, as it relates to horses, means that we can communicate to that horse in such a way that the thing that they initially did not want to do becomes the thing that they choose to do because of our direction. In other words, our idea becomes their idea.

Harry also stated, “Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers.

I agree with this concept 100% because reading is still one of the best sources of information to improve one’s understanding.

“If a man is acquainted with other people who have experience at this desk” Truman would say sitting in the Oval Office. “It would be easier for him to go through a similar experience. It is ignorance that causes most mistakes. “

Hopefully, you can glean from my past and present experiences, so that your journey to go from where you are to where you want to be can be much easier, and take less time for you than it has for me.

Vince Lombardi quotes, Leaders are made, not born.

Leading is an attribute that improves from the memory of what worked and what did not. This learned skill can be yours.

The short of it is, the better you become with your communication with the ones you will be leading, the better received you will be. Horses are looking for strong confident leadership.
