Clear Mental Horsemanship with Dennis Cappel
We all strive for that once-in-a-lifetime true connection with our horse. One that displays the essence of a bond that is unshakeable, coupled with trust and respect.
When building that kind of relationship, what you feel and project matter more than what you say or do physically. Your horse is incredibly sensitive to your energy. They notice your emotions, your confidence, or your insecurity, even if you do not realize it yourself.
Insecurity can make a horse uneasy and ready to flee. You might not notice your heart rate rising or your posture closing off, but your horse does. They seek safety, and they find it when your presence is calm and steady.
On the other hand, using force or aggression of jerks might get a quick response, but it does not build trust. It can cause tension, resistance, or fear. Instead, true connection comes from presence and clarity, being mentally focused, physically relaxed, and consistent in your energy.
When you clearly know what you want and communicate with calm, steady energy, your horse understands that. Timing is key; matching your energy to the moment helps your horse respond with calm cooperation.
This is not about dominance or control. It is about directing with intention, purpose, and clarity. Your energy is the language your horse reads best, and when you speak it well, you create trust and harmony.
Mindful Riding,
